Every country or region has the code of practice to suit their local conditions.
Therefore,It depends on what and for what purpose one need to use a different code than the respective country code.For being legally right, we need to adhere to the respective country codes in most of the cases. It will be good idea to check with the respective country's building control.
In middle east,some regions follow American codes and some Euro codes and some a mix of BS codes and UBC or IBC
If it is India,to be legally right you have to follow IS codes.
My logic says that if the reference is for more info or on a topic that is not covered or is unclear in IS codes,then perhaps it is okay to adopt another code.
It should not be to dilute or compromise another existing clause in the code in any case.
